The fabric

'Exotic Flowers in Blue' is a fine example of a ‘Sarasa’, a style of print heavily influenced by imported fabrics from India, Java and Persia. ‘Sarasa’ style prints existed for centuries in Japan but became particularly popular and widely used in the Edo period (1603 to 1868). It’s characteristics of trailing plants and flowers is beautifully expressed in vibrant colours. It is a lightweight fabric with a very soft and drapey texture.
