Care and Repair

How to Look After Hit Parade Silk Wear

Cleaning —

If your Hit Parade silk wear needs cleaning, please have it professionally dry cleaned by a good dry cleaner. It should never be washed in a domestic machine or by hand.

Japanese silks, especially ‘chirimen’ crepe silk does not like steam, as it can change the texture. A warm iron is recommended and please avoid using any steam.

As a precaution, we also recommend decorative vintage buttons to be covered while being dry cleaned. A good drycleaner should know this, but please remind them to do so.

If you live in north London, we recommend Newington Green Dry Cleaner at 48 Newington Green, London N16 9PX, as they have been our partner for testing and dry cleaning our prototypes and samples and are familiar with the correct procedures.

Storing —

In Japan, where summer heat is more extreme and humidity is much higher than the UK, precious kimonos are traditionally kept in a box made with the Princess tree (Paulownia tomentosa) as the oils in the wood repel silkworm moths and prevent them from laying eggs. Although taking such measures are not necessary if you live in a more moderate climate, you should still take precautions against clothes moths as silk is a natural protein fibre.

Please keep your silk wear in a dry place that’s out of direct sunlight and away from heaters or radiators. Please make sure they are clean before storing.
